You might get away with just a tune on a 3.8L kit, but a 4.2-4.5L kit is essentially a new engine, same with turbos. You can't just toss in the kit and be done. A stroked Z is probably more work than you suspect. Sam is a good guy to talk to at GTM take the time and call them one call to them can definatly point you in the right direction.įor the build depending on who you buy the kit from, you have bearings, valve train that will need to be upgraded, Headgaskets, Main and Headstud issues, Oil system, Fuel system, Cooling issues. The BC strokers are good, and so is GTM, they have great stuff and have done the work to back it up. I would say stick with a smaller kit like the 4.2 and turn up the PSI in stead of going for huge stroke, cause you are going to loose some of the RPM out of it, and will save some pennys on machining. We are building a 4L TT at the moment, hoping for 1000HP at the Flywheel, Its a big setup when you look at the 4.5 kits as there is a lote of maching to do to the block, i would say the better part of 6-10g for a short assembly, with line boring, decking and getting the sleeves machined in, and then remachined to suit bore size. Stroking before boosting is a bit hard becasue to keep good power you are going to want to keep compression around 9.5-1 to 10-1, only problem with this is when it comes to boosting the engine you wont be able run run big PSI with our race gas or massive amounts of fuel, i would say do it all at once, otherwise you are going to be compromising between the 2 setups.
